PCB makes massive changes in organizational structure

PCB's Major Events Loom as Regional Tournament Takes Center Stage

In a recent development at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Management Committee (MC) led by Chairman Zaka Ashraf has announced significant changes in the organizational structure. Two high-ranking officials, Director Media Sami-ul-Hasan Burney and former CEO Faisal Hasnain, have been transferred to the special projects department, effective immediately. This move has sparked interest among cricket enthusiasts and followers of the sport.

Sami-ul-Hasan Burney had assumed the role of Director Media and Communications for PCB in 2019 under the chairmanship of Ehsan Mani. During his tenure, Burney played a vital role in enhancing the board’s media outreach and communication strategies, making cricket-related information more accessible to the public.

On the other hand, Faisal Hasnain took over as CEO of PCB in 2022, following the resignation of Wasim Khan. His appointment was made by former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja. As CEO, Hasnain was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the board’s overall operations and implementing strategies to promote cricket in the country.

With the reshuffling of these key positions, the PCB aims to bring fresh perspectives and efficiency to its special projects department. However, the specific nature of these special projects remains undisclosed, leaving room for speculation among cricket enthusiasts and insiders alike.

As a result of these transfers, the media department at PCB is currently being managed by Raza Kitchlew, a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience within the organization. While serving as the senior general manager, Kitchlew is now temporarily leading the media and communications team, ensuring smooth continuity of operations during this transitional phase.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time the PCB has witnessed significant changes in its structure. Previous Management Committee chairman, Najam Sethi, also made prominent alterations during his tenure. He appointed Shahid Afridi as the chief of the selection committee for a brief period before later appointing Haroon Rashid to the position.

Rumors are now swirling around the potential changes in the selection committee, with reports suggesting that former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez is a top contender for the chief selector’s position. According to some sources, Chairman Zaka Ashraf has already extended an offer to Hafeez to take on this crucial role. If this speculation turns out to be true, Hafeez’s appointment could bring fresh insights and a player’s perspective to the selection committee’s decision-making process.
