PCB reacts to Shahid Afridi's statements on Shaheen Shah's rehabilitation

Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has revealed some claiming statements against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which have created a whole lot of controversies. While talking on the Samaa channel, he revealed that his son-in-law Shaheen Shah Afridi is conducting his rehabilitation process in the UK on his own budget.

Relating the context, the pacer was injured during the Galle Test versus Sri Lanka in July and was ruled out of the Netherlands series and the team’s Asia Cup 2022 squad. He was advised to rest for four-six weeks. The board gathered bashes for not handling Shaheen’s injury effectively.

During Asia Cup, it was heard that Shaheen had been sent to London for speedy recovery and rehab. However, according to the recent statements of his father-in-law, Shaheen himself arranged a ticket and the rehab process, whereas Shahid arranged a doctor for him.

While claiming that the PCB is not managing Shaheen’s expenditures, Shahid narrated,

“Shaheen went to England for rehabilitation at his own expense. I arranged him a doctor there, and he contacted him. PCB is providing nothing to Shaheen,”

While responding to ex-Afridi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ramiz Raja, mentioned that the board could not even think of leaving Shaheen alone. In a video message, Raja mentioned,

“How can PCB leave Shaheen alone at this time? PCB made efforts for Rizwan when he got an injury during the last T20 World Cup. I think clarification was needed at this moment to avoid unnecessary controversy,” the PCB boss said while interacting with fans on social media.

Terming Shahid’s claims as baseless, Ramiz continued,

Shaheen had to leave Dubai at the earliest. I think there was some ticket issue. In London, he left one hotel because he didn’t like it,

“We didn’t leave our players alone. Ask our players how many facilities they are getting. Not only international players, but we are also providing the best facilities to our domestic players too,”
