Big Players who have chosen not to play IPL 2022

players who have chosen not to play IPL 2022

The fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) is likely to get started from late March or early April. But, the venue fuss is still on the board as the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to finalize the hosts with high probabilities for Maharashtra.

Apart from the venue confusion, IPL is dealing with a big blow with many cricketing greats opting out of this year’s mega auction. Here are the names of the big players who have chosen not to play IPL 2022 due to several reasons:

Sam Curran:

England’s Sam Curran will not be playing IPL 2022 because of his recent injury. During the second half of the last season in the UAE, Curran complained about lower back pain. After scanning, it was found out that he had lower back stress.

Notably, he was missing from the action during the Ashes and T20 World Cup 2021. The Southpaw has already started his rehabilitation. If he would have been fit, CSK would probably have opted for him again.

Chris Woakes:

Chris Woakes has always enjoyed a fair demand in IPL despite the fact that he readily is available. The franchises have shown great interest in auctioning him but the player has pulled him out of the mega auction.

He will not be rendering his services to any team this year due to bio-bubble fatigue. Like other English players, he will be in action once the County new season kick starts.

Overall, the 32-year old has been part of IPL since 2017 and has in total played for three different franchises KKR, RCB, and DC.

Tom Curran:

Just like his brother Sam Curran, Tom Curran has made himself unavailable for IPL 2022 mega auction following his stress fracture in the lower back. The player is expected to be out of action till May.

He is currently under the supervision of his Club Surrey and under the rehabilitation process. Previously, he has enjoyed the IPL delights representing the teams KKR, RR, and DC.

Jhye Richardson:

Jhye Richardson made a great entry in IPL last year. He was sold out of INR 14 Crores, however, the performance was not up to the mark. In the second leg that took place in the UAE, Richardson was unavailable.

The reason why Richardson has not penned him for the IPL 2022 mega auction is not clear, however, his latest minor leg injury might be the likely cause.

Moreover, he has been told to rest ahead of the Australia tour of Pakistan 2022.

Mitchell Starc:

IPL has been waiting for Mitchell Starc’s return but the Aussie has decided to prioritize his national duties first. During the IPL 2022 tenure, the bowler will be rendering his services for the Australia tour of Pakistan 2022.

Starc’s last season was 2015 when he represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He highlighted that omitting from the upcoming marquee event is the consequence of over time in the bio-bubbles.

Kyle Jamieson:

New Zealand’s multi-format cricketer, Kyle Jamieson made his IPL debut in 2021 but has decided not to take part in IPL 2022. Due to continuous cricket in the past year, Jamieson has chosen to rest and overcome excessive bio-bubbles.

Ben Stokes:

Following the Ashes 2021-22 defeat, multiple English players have been asked not to join any league. Hence, Stokes’s main focus is now preparing in red-ball cricket rather than flying to India to participate in the IPL.

If he would have made himself available for the auction, many franchises would have raised hefty amounts for him. Stokes lastly played for the Rajasthan Royals featuring in only the single game due to a broken finger.

Chris Gayle:

The cricketing giant, Chris Gayle will not be playing IPL 2022. Though the reason for his unavailability is unclear, many assume that he might have already made his last appearance in the league.

One of the reasons why Gayle might have opt-out of the tournament is his dull form in the t20 he showcased during IPL 2021. All in all, by finishing as IPL’s all-time seventh highest scorer, Chris Gayle has smashed the most sixes (357) and centuries (6).

Joe Root:

Just like other English cricketers, Joe Root has decided to prepare red-ball cricket in the county season before home summer begins. After England’s horrible defeat versus Australia in the Ashes 2021-22, Root has firmly decided not to play IPL 2022.
