The sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) is all set to resume in Abu Dhabi as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) approached United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently to use their grounds. Notably, PSL 6 was decided to resume in Karachi but the disapproval of the franchises’ stakeholders amidst the COVID-19 surge in the country has dragged it out of the country.
On the other hand, India’s renowned T20 league, the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) was also underway but it had to be withdrawn amidst BCCI‘s unwillingness despite the COVID threats in India. Now, they are also contemplating to recommence the league in any feasible window.
As the window of June in the UAE will be occupied by PSL, there is no chance for the IPL to take place then. Not only this, UAE is full of cricket this year causing trouble for the IPL to look for the venues.
The speculations intimate that the event might continue from September to October in the Arab nation – just before the T20 World Cup. It is pertinent to mention here that the early days of September will be conquered by Pak vs Afg series for at least a week.
Later, New Zealand and Pakistan will be in action that will seize the allotted ground for more than two weeks giving no room to the IPL to progress ahead. Hence, the BCCI is facing logistical issues pondering where to replace the world’s cash-rich league to save huge revenue.
PSL 2021 in Abu Dhabi, where will IPL 2021 go?
As the World Cup 2021 is to commence in India, the ICC has named UAE as the backup venue amidst the poor health condition in India. Moreover, the UAE has promised to hand over all its venues by 1st October being an obstacle in India’s way to organize the league which lefts no way for BCCI but to look for another venue.
