PSL 2022 category renewal: Afridi and other senior players demoted

The seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2022) is set to progress from 27th January as the opener of the extravaganza will be played between Karachi Kings and the title defenders Multan Sultans at National Stadium.

According to the recent developments following PSL 2022, the board, PCB, has decided the draft for the season will take place at the National High Performance Center in Lahore on 12th December, Sunday.

Following the drafting, the issuance of PSL 2022 local player category renewal has surprised everyone. The big names, including Shahid Khan Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez and more have been demoted.

Afridi, who is playing for Multan Sultans, have been moved from Platinum Category to Diamond Category. Similarly, Hafeez, Mohammad Amir, Malik have been demoted to Diamon Category.

Kamran Akmal, the second-highest run-scorer of the event, has also been moved from Diamond to Gold category. However, a few on behalf of their performances, have been moved up.

In the biggest moves, Pakistan wicketkeeper/batter and Multan Sultan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan (previously Silver), Asif Ali of Islamabad United (previously Gold) and Lahore Qalandars’ Haris Rauf (previously Diamond) have been placed in Platinum Category.

Multan Sultans’ Sohaib Maqsood, who was Player of PSL 6, and Haider Ali of Peshawar Zalmi have moved up from Silver and Gold Categories to Diamond Category, respectively.

4 Feb – Karachi Kings vs Peshawar Zalmi
