PSL 2022: Zalmi back in the race

PSL 2022: Zalmi back in the race

Peshawar Zalmi have jumped to the fourth position from third on the PSL 2022 points table as they thrashed away Islamabad United on Thursday’s encounter.

Winning the match means getting good-going in the race of play-offs alongside United, Lahore, being among fab fours including already qualified Multan Sultans. Karachi Kings are left with no chance, however, there are minor ifs and buts for Quetta Gladiators’ qualification.

Zalmi won the toss and elected to bat first. Wahab and men put up 206 runs on the scoreboard losing eight of their men. Islamabad’s Faheem Ashraf, the bowling all-rounder grasped three wickets, Waqas Maqsood struck with two, whereas, Marchant De Lange, Zahir Khan, and Liam Dawson grasped one apiece.

With United marching on the field to bring a target of 207 runs, they gave all of them but fell 10 runs short. With seven wickets left in hand, Shadab Khan’s men coiled up the show on 196.

Notably, Shadab missed the match amidst his injury and the middle-order batter Asif Ali led in his place. As a consequence of 10-run defeat versus Zalmi, United have been dropped to fourth spot having four wins out of eight played.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz had a solid opening as he slammed 46 off 19 balls giving a way to United to chase. However, things got messy in the mid despite Azam Khan’s crucial knock of 85 off 45 balls.

Zalmi bowlers grasped seven wickets; Salman Irshad picked a three-wicket haul. Whereas, captain Wahab Riaz plucked two wickets. Husain Talat and Ben Cutting grasped one scalps apiece.

It must be noted that during the PZ vs IU match, Riaz became the first bowler in the history of PSL to reach the 100-wicket milestone. Hasan Ali, the former Zalmi bowler, is the next in line with 78 wickets.

Bowling 4.3 ball of his side’s inning, Wahab’s quick delivery let Danish nick the ball that went straight into Mohammad Haris’s hands.

The pacer has been featuring in the T20 league since its inaugural edition, 2016. Wahab’s encounter versus United on Thursday was his 75th since 2016. Achieving a 100-wicket milestone within seven years is something that no other player has done so far.
