PSL 9: Which players were picked during replacement draft?

As the countdown to the HBL Pakistan Super League ninth edition (PSL 9) intensifies, teams have made strategic moves by adding supplementary and replacement players to their squads. The tournament, set to commence on February 17, promises an exciting blend of seasoned stars and emerging talents.

Peshawar Zalmi, known for their astute draft strategies, drafted Waqar Salamkheil in the silver category to fill the void left by Lungi Ngidi, who will be unavailable for the entire season. Additionally, the team addressed the partial availability of Khurram Shahzad by selecting pacer Arshad Iqbal in the silver category. Gus Atkinson was chosen as the replacement for Noor Ahmed, and Zalmi have reserved their pick for the partially available Naveen ul Haq.

Lahore Qalandars took a cautious approach by reserving picks for the fully unavailable Rashid Khan and partially unavailable Dan Lawrence. Meanwhile, Islamabad United kept their options open with a reserved pick for Tom Curran, who is not part of this edition.

Karachi Kings acted swiftly by bringing in Zahid Mehmood as a partial replacement for the legendary Kieron Pollard. The team also reserved their pick for the talented Tim Seifert.

Quetta Gladiators underwent a change, with Bismillah Khan stepping in for Wanindu Hasaranga due to Hasaranga’s international commitments. The team also made a strategic move by drafting English batter Laurie Evans in the third supplementary round and reserving their pick in the fourth round.

Supplementary picks witnessed exciting additions to the teams’ arsenals.  Zalmi secured left-arm pacer Luke Wood in the first supplementary round, while United added the talented left-arm pacer Obed McCoy in the second round.

Kings bolstered their batting lineup with the English batter Leus De Plooy in the third round, and Qalandars picked Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the same round. Sultans and Gladiators also made notable selections, adding West Indian wicketkeeper-batter Johnson Charles and English batter Laurie Evans, respectively.

The fourth round of supplementary picks saw Sultans securing the promising 19-year-old Muhammad Shahzad. United drafted the explosive Haider Ali, set to feature in his fifth HBL PSL season. Gladiators reserved their pick in this round, showcasing a strategic approach.

Zalmi continued their spree by selecting left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Muqeem. Qalandars opted for Tayyab Abbas from their player development program, and Karachi drafted the 21-year-old Mohammad Rohid to complete their supplementary picks.
