PSL 2024: PCB debunks claims of payment delays

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has debunked payment delay claims raised by the Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA). The FICA has reported payment issues across various franchise leagues, including the Pakistan Super League.

According to FICA, the PCB has not paid the salaries of some players for the last two seasons. However, the board was quick to respond. It says there are no pending dues and have cleared all players ‘on time’.

The PCB’s director of international cricket operations, Usman Wahla says that there has ‘never’ been any delay in PSL payments over the course of nine years. He further requested FICA to rectify their document with appropriate information.

“There is no – and never has been – any delay in player payments in any of our nine [PSL] seasons… we have written to FICA to rectify this in their document,” Wahla told ESPNcricinfo.

For foreign players, the PSL pays 70% of the amount within seven days of their arrival in Pakistan, whereas the remaining amount is cleared within 40 days of the tournament’s final.

Earlier, in the 2022 season, Australian cricketer James Faulkner complained of the non-fulfilment of the contract by the board. However, the board denied these allegations saying every player was paid as promised.

He added,

“I apologise to the Pakistan cricket fans. But unfortunately, I’ve had to withdraw from the last 2 matches and leave the (PSL) due to the (PCB) not honouring my contractual agreement/payments. I’ve been here the whole duration and they have continued to lie to me.”

It should be noted that Islamabad United added a third PSL trophy to their cabinet defeating Multan Sultans in the PSL 2024 final. They are now the most successful franchise, followed by Lahore Qalandars, who have two titles under their belt.
