Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has criticized the current PCB management, led by Najam Sethi, for appointing Mickey Arthur as the team director despite his main focus being with Derbyshire County Club. Raja stated that it was absurd to appoint a coach/director of cricket who prioritizes his county job over Pakistan cricket.
Raja went on to criticize the PCB management committee, calling them political, petty-minded club runners who earn a salary of Rs 12 lakhs a month. He accused the PCB chairman of not understanding cricket and being unfit to even make it to the XI in a club game.
Raja, who was removed from the PCB office by the current patron-in-chief of PCB, Shehbaz Sharif, has been a vocal critic of Sethi and his men. Raja was appointed as the PCB chairman by former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, in 2021.
The arrival of Mickey Arthur as team director has once again led Raja to criticize the Sethi-led management committee. PCB announced that Arthur would be involved in designing, formulating, and overseeing strategies behind the Pakistan men’s team. He would also be a part of the coaching staff for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, away tour to Australia, home series against the West Indies, and Pakistan’s matches against India in the ACC Asia Cup.
