Ramiz Raja to oppose extended IPL window in ICC conference

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) recently appointed chairman, Ramiz Raja is scheduled to meet the heads of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and other cricket boards at Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to discuss hosting the world’s big cricketing events within the country.

As per reports, he has already left for Dubai to attend the meeting and will return to Pakistan on Friday. This meeting will be Raja’s first international tour since he has been assigned chairman duties.

The main centre of discussion will be Asia Cup 2022 set to take place in Sri Lanka. During the meeting, Ramiz will put up an idea of hosting international cricket tournaments in Pakistan in front of all boards’ bosses.

Raja is optimistic about hosting ACC, ICC world events or series in Pakistan after the cricket-loving nation suffered a huge setback following New Zealand, England tours cancellation citing security, mental well-being issues.

He already wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council to demand the legit reasons and now, is set to query ACC’s roles over illogical decisions.

Moreover, he spoke about how the two boards can mutually assist each other in hosting these tournaments. Consequently, he is expected to meet the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to jointly host future tournaments.

“Pakistan has already tabled a bid to host cricket mega-events from 2024-31. Besides hosting some of the events exclusively, the PCB has also expressed its willingness to join hands with other boards for hosting the major events,”

“Say if Pakistan is to bid for the T20 World Cup in years to come, the PCB can do it with the help and assistance of other neighbouring cricket boards. Since the PCB is enjoying good relations with the Emirates Board, the discussion on joint ventures cannot be ruled out,”
