Pakistan Cricket Team will undergo the ACC Asia Cup 2022 with a youngster-based squad as the PCB announced a 15-player squad for the event on Wednesday. Shoaib Malik and Imad Wasim being missed out were the two big questions but why Hasan Ali has been dropped is not a surprise.
Hasan, who started his international career in 2016, inspired the watchers with his simple bowling, yet with full of variations. The fast-bowler plucked out wickets and celebrated in style to what people terms generator. However, this generator has developed some battery issues over the last few months, not operating how it used to be.
The PCB, as a consequence, has decided to rest Hasan for Asia Cup 2022. Although skipper Babar Azam has been giving back-to-back chances to the bowler to bounce back, but amidst the failures rising continually, Hasan has failed to make it till the ACC event. The board narrates that it wishes to see old Hasan Ali back sooner and, for the reason, has rested the bowler.
Since this year’s Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format, what matters most to the PCB is the player’s performance in the format. Considering the last 12 months, Hasan has featured in nine T20Is, gathering only eight wickets. It has seen a surplus change in his strike rate dropping to 23.1.

As far as Hasan’s latest PSL is concerned, he featured in nine matches for Islamabad United and managed only nine wickets at an average of 40.55 and had an economy rate of 10.84. Not only in the T20Is but his form in the rest of the two formats has been questionable.
No wonders why Hasan has been left out of the Pakistan squad for Asia Cup 2022 following his courtesy to drop multiple catches in critical situations of the all-important events. It must be noted that young pacer Naseem Shah will be seen in action in place of him. Below is the complete squad:
Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Usman Qadir.
