Recent developments of HBL PSL 8

The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 8) is almost four months away, and the preparations are going on in full swing. With the HBL PSL 2023 draft all set to take place in the third week of December, we have also seen six international cricketers registering for the event.

It includes England’s Dawid Malan and Jason Roy, South Africa’s David Miller, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, and Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga. While the official PSL handle has confirmed Miller and Roy’s registrations, the official confirmation about the rest is yet to come.

Alongside this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had also revealed the pick order for the HBL PSL 8 draft, according to which Lahore Qalandars have got the first pick. The second pick will be made by Quetta Gladiators, who won the PSL 2019, whereas the third pick belongs to Multan Sultans, who won the PSL in 2021.

The fourth pick goes to Karachi Kings, and the most successful franchise of the PSL, Islamabad United, will have the fifth pick, whereas Peshawar Zalmi, the winner of the maiden edition of PSL, will have the last pick.

Moreover, according to the shocking developments of HBL PSL 8, Kamran Akmal, who has been associated with Peshawar Zalmi from the first season, is no longer associated with the franchise. Similarly, Lahore Qalandars have parted ways with Mohammad Hafeez after years of connection.

Also, the PCB has renewed local player categories for PSL 2023. While some have been upgraded, many players have been demoted following their recent edition’s performances. The complete list is available here.
