Retire as captain! demand fans to Babar Azam

Babar Azam has dragged himself in hot water after failing to perform in crucial matches and taking some decisions in all-important games disfavouring Pakistan.

The right-handed batter’s last few scores are 4, 4, 0, 6*, 15, 55, 21, 79*, 22, which creates an alarming situation for Pakistan Cricket Team whilst opening. Putting a poor start to the innings, Azam has been considered the reason for letting Pakistan down, as a solid opening is understood to be the base for a batting line-up.

Apart from his individual performances, Azam is lashed for making poor decisions at times for the team, which have adversely affected the team during all-important clashes. For example, his decision to introduce a spinner, Mohammad Nawaz, to deliver the final over versus India was all over the internet.

The experts understand the skipper failed to rotate his bowlers, as Haris, someone expert with death overs, should have been introduced to handle the final over pressure. Similarly, during an intense battle against Zimbabwe in the subsequent game, the decision to send Shaheen Shah Afridi to bat could have been altered, as his knee injury, not yet fully healed, did not let him run efficiently to take two runs on the last ball.

Apart from it, the experts find it Azam’s duty to sacrifice the opening slot and bat one down. Or the second possibility could be Babar opening with Fakhar Zaman, whereas Mohammad Rizwan coming one down. Notably, the playing XI should be lined up as per the situation. Although the Babar-Rizwan opening has worked on numerous occasions, it would not necessarily be fruitful in Australian conditions.

Moreover, excluding the non-working middle-order batters is Babar’s sole duty as a skipper. However, we have seen underperforming Haider Ali, Asif Ali, and some others being propelled to bat despite being out of form. For many reasons and bad decisions at times, fans have lashed at Babar to retire as the skipper and better perform on his individual records.
