India’s all format skipper Rohit Sharma has been tainted with a new record being the most capped T20I player in the world. The record is unique to all, and was enlisted during the second T20I of the India vs Sri Lanka series. Virat Kohli’s successor stood in the 125th T20I match surpassing the prior record of Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik with 124 T20Is, whilst leading the men in blue in the home game on 26th February.
Rohit Sharma – The most capped T20I player
Sharma is now the only Indian cricketer to feature in 100+ T20Is. Behind him are the ex Indian captains, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, with 98 and 97 T20Is sequentially. The Mumbai-born made his format’s debut in 2007 T20 World Cup. The lucky charm instantly inspire letting his bat talk. Since then, he has scored 3308 runs averaging 32.8 with a highest score of 118.
The right-handed batsman was recently appointed as the skipper of all formats. He is in a stellar form, coming from a T20I series win versus West Indies and is on the verge of thrashing away Sri Lanka in the three-match series. India won the first match by 62 runs, and declared a victory in the next match by 7 wickets. Currently, at the time of the writing, the final T20I is under the way.
After the T20I series winds up, the two teams will be donning nation’s white jerseys to combat in the two red-ball encounters. The first Test match will be played from 4th to 8th March at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, whereas, the last match will take place at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium from 12th to 16th March. This will be the first time Rohit Sharma will be commanding India in the red-ball cricket.
