SA20: 8 out of 318 cricketers named in highest reserve price bracket

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has finalised a list of 318 cricketers for the SA20 auction, out of which only eight potential cricketers have made it to the highest reserved price bracket. It worths ZAR 1,700,000 and includes Jason Roy, Eoin Morgan, Tymal Mills, Adil Rashid, Jimmy Neesham, Chamika Karunaratne, Odean Smith, and Jayden Seales.

Out of 158 overseas options, England have the most representatives, 54, whereas the rest belong to the South African contingent. Out of 54 England cricketers, 13 are placed in the second-highest price bracket worth ZAR 850,000, which also includes 11 Sri Lankan, 7 West Indians, 6 Afghanistan players, 2 Australians, 2 Kiwis, and one from Ireland.

CSA has also included ten local cricketers named Rassie van der Dussen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dwaine Pretorius, Lungisani Ngidi, Janneman Malan, Rilee Rossouw, Temba Bavuma, Reeza Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, and Andile Phehlukwayo in the second-tier.

All six teams, owned by the owners of different franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have $34 Million left in their purses. They pre signed four players each and will pick the complete squad on the auction day, scheduled for 19th September in Cape Town.

Notably, SA20 is going to be another cash-rich league alongside IPL and the newly-launched UAE T20 league. The three contests offer lucrative prices to a player as many of them are drooling to join the tournaments as their priority over their national commitments.

It is pertinent to mention here that the inaugural edition of SA20 will run between January and February 2022. The six teams are named Durban Super Giants and Joburg Super Kings, both owned by IPL’s Chennai Super Kings, MI Cape Town owned by IPL’s Mumbai Indians, Paarl Royals owned by IPL’s Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape owned by IPL’s Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Pretoria Capitals owned by IPL’s Delhi Capitals.
