
Exciting news for cricket enthusiasts as the inaugural edition of the Sindh Premier League (SPL) is set to kick off on September 19 in Karachi, according to an announcement made by Sindh’s Local Government Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. The press conference held at the Sindh Assembly premises unveiled the much-anticipated franchise cricket league of Sindh, which will provide a fresh ray of hope for young cricketers in the region.
“We are delighted to announce that the SPL will commence on September 17 in Karachi,” declared Shah. “This event will serve as a platform to nurture and showcase the immense talent of young cricketers in Sindh,” he further emphasized.
The SPL is a unique tournament designed to unearth raw cricketing talent within the province. The participation of renowned cricketers such as Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, and Misbah-ul-Haq adds to the excitement and significance of the league.
Shah reiterated the pivotal role that Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq will play in the SPL, emphasizing that their presence will provide invaluable exposure to the local players. Their vast experience and expertise will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of cricket in Sindh.
The SPL will feature a total of six teams, with three teams already sold out. The sold-out franchises include Karachi Ghazis, Hyderabad Bahadurs, and Benazirabad Lals. Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq will represent the Benazirabad Lals, while Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq will be associated with the Hyderabad Bahadurs. Afridi, in addition to being a player, holds the prestigious position of the league’s brand ambassador.
Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, also expressed his enthusiasm for the SPL, highlighting it as a golden opportunity for the talented cricketers of Sindh. He emphasized that the league would promote cricket within the province and provide equal opportunities for aspiring cricketers. The SPL is poised to become a significant platform for showcasing the skills and potential of young players in Sindh.
