Shaheen Afridi sets two records in one day in PSL 6

Shaheen Afridi, PSL

Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s left-arm fast-bowler and leader of the pace attack, represents Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Shaheen Afridi made his international debut in 2018 against the second-string touring West Indies side in the Twenty20 Internationals. He then later made his ODI debut in the Asia Cup 2018 against arch-rivals India before making his Test debut against New Zealand later that year.

Since then, Shaheen has been an excellent prospect for leading Pakistan across all formats. He has been the key bowler not just for Pakistan, but for franchise teams as well. He leads the bowling attack and has excellent seam and swing deliveries.

PSL 6: Shaheen Afridi sets two records in one day

Against the recently concluded Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans game, Shaheen Afridi set two records in a day. First one, he has a record for most wickets in the very first over of the innings since 2020. He leads the table with ten dismissals, followed by New Zealand’s Trent Boult with eight.

Another record he set was that he became the “youngest fast bowler” to take 100 Twenty20 wickets. He began today’s game with 98 wickets in his Twenty20 career. He dismissed both Chris Lynn and Mohammad Rizwan to achieve his wicket numbers 99 and 100.

Afghanistan’s spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the youngest player to take 100 wickets in T20 cricket, breaking his Afghan teammate Rashid Khan’s record. Mujeeb, at the age of 18 years 271 days, claimed this feat in 96 matches and eclipsed the previous record held by Rashid Khan at 18 years 360 days.

Shaheen, not only became the youngest fast bowler to take 100 Twenty20 wickets but also took over his fellow teammate Shadab Khan as Pakistan’s youngest player to take 100 Twenty20 wickets.

It was indeed a great achievement for the fast bowler.
