Shaheen Shah Afridi ruled out of Asia Cup 2022

Shaheen Shah Afridi ruled out of Asia Cup 2022

Pakistan are now out of their frontline pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi, since the bowler has been ruled out of Asia Cup 2022 squad. Undoubtedly, it is a great blow to the men in green, who had Shaheen as the key bowler in the team.

Also, the left-arm pacer will not feature in the upcoming home seven-match T20I series versus England, starting after Asia Cup 2022. Shaheen suffered a knee injury during last month’s Test against Sri Lanka and has not yet fully recovered.

Before Pakistan Cricket Team was due to fly to Netherlands for an ongoing three-match ODI series, Babar Azam conducted a press conference in which he discussed Shaheen’s availability for future fixtures. He narrated the bowler will at least be out of the line-up in first two ODIs and might play third.

Azam also mentioned his inclusion in Asia Cup commenting the PCB is carrying medical team along to look after Shaheen’s injury. Since things are still under process, Pakistan will now struggle throughout the event to manage their bowling efficiently. The board will soon reveal his replacement.

PCB Chief Medical Officer, Dr Najeebullah Soomro: “I have spoken with Shaheen and he is understandably upset with the news, but he is brave young man who has vowed to come back strongly to serve his country and team. Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear he will require more time and is likely to return to competitive cricket in October.

“PCB’s Sports & Exercise Medicine Department will be working closely with the player over the coming weeks to ensure his safe return to competitive cricket.”
