Shoaib Akhtar wishes Virat Kohli retires from T20I cricket

Former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has expressed his desire to see Indian batter Virat Kohli retire from T20I cricket. His ironic statements came after the right-handed batter guided his team to victory against Pakistan as both teams opened their T20 World Cup 2022 journeys against each other.

While talking on his YouTube channel, the former pacer said Kohli could have used that energy to smash three centuries in the One-Day Internationals rather than putting all his energy into a T20I match.

“I want him to retire from T20I because I don’t want that he puts his entire energy into T20I cricket. If he used all his might like he did today, he could score three centuries in ODIs,”

He also termed Kohli’s knock of 82* from 53 as “the greatest inning of his life”. While heaping praises on the batter who has just broken his poor form jinx, Shoaib said,

“According to me, he played like this because he had the self-belief that he would do it,”

While quoting the rough patch Kohli had to go through, Akhtar said,

“He was down and out for three years, he didn’t score runs, he was stripped of his captaincy, and many people said many things to him. People even dragged his family into it, but he kept training, and just a day before Diwali, he played a firecracker on an innings.

He decided that this place and this stage is perfect for his comeback. The king is back, and he is back with a bang, and I am really happy for him. He is a great cricketer,”
