Sri Lanka Cricket to re-discuss Asia Cup 2022 hosting with ACC

Sri Lanka Cricket to re-discuss Asia Cup 2022 hosting with ACC

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is to re-discuss hosting Asia Cup 2022 within their realms with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in a meeting scheduled for July 28th.

Recently, the unsettled economic and political crises in the island nation have created some uncertainties for them to host Asia Cup. However, they have successfully hosted Australia for a full tour and currently embracing Pakistan for two tests, yet concerns are raised with the rising number of protests across the cities.

The ACC is reviewing the circumstances there before making a final call regarding Asia Cup 2022 hosting. Reportedly, the SLC has denied hosting the event amidst the crisis but is likely to discuss the things again with the upper body. It has also been heard Sri Lanka’s government has given a green signal to host the event.

According to Sri Lanka’s media,

“A top Government official already discussed with the SLC officials and given the green light to host Asia Cup 2022 in Sri Lanka. SLC officials will now meet ACC’s high-ups on July 28 in Dubai,”

After the economic and political instabilities have risen to an extent, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has also claimed that Asia Cup 2022 will be shifting to the UAE. He feels there can be no better venue than UAE, as there will be no rains during the tenure.

It must be noted that the upcoming version of the Asia Cup has been scheduled to take place between 27th August and 11th September. Even if it moves to the UAE, the SLC will be the original host of the tournament.

As far as the teams are concerned, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan are already qualified, whereas UAE, Singapore, Kuwait and Hong Kong will play in qualifiers. One of them, on winning, will be ready to join the five teams.
