Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has suspended its cricketer Dnushka Gunathilaka for being involved in sexual assault in Sydney during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
As a result of an alleged sentence in Sydney on 2nd November, he was detained early on Sunday and charged with four counts of rape. On the next day, the cricketer was refused bail.
SLC immediately confirmed that he has been suspended from all forms of cricket. In a statement released by the board,
“Sri Lanka Cricket will take the necessary steps to promptly carry out an inquiry into the alleged offence, and, upon conclusion of the aforementioned court case in Australia, steps will be taken to penalize the said player if found guilty.
“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to emphasize that it adopts a “zero tolerance” policy for any such conduct by a player and will provide all the required support to the Australian law enforcement authorities to carry out an impartial inquiry into the incident,”
As per the details, Danushka met a woman through an online dating app and had been in connection with her for the last some days. A few hours after Sri Lanka’s match against England, he was taken into custody at the team’s hotel.
