Sri Lanka's super showcase sends Bangladesh home

Sri Lanka has become the third team to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4, thrashing away Bangladesh in a nail-biting match. Although they did not put a good start to the team’s event’s campaign, losing following their poor batting versus Afghanistan, but made sure to register the record of the highest-ever chase in T20 Asia Cup history.

Shakib Al Hasan’s batters were impressive, putting a target of 183 on the board. The significant contributions include Mehidy Hasan’s 38, Shakib’s 24, Afif Hossein’s 39, Mahmudullah’s 27, and on top of all, Mosaddek Hossain’s power show, bringing 24 from nine deliveries.

Dasun Shanaka’s bowlers were not as effective, as they managed seven wickets with lose intervals. Wanindu Harasanga and Chamika Karunaratne grabbed two wickets apiece, conceding 41 and 32 runs, respectively, whereas Asitha Fernando, Maheesh Teekshana, and Dilshan Madushanka got one wicket for each, yielding 51, 23, and 26 runs, respectively.

At one stage, it almost looked impossible for Sri Lanka to keep their place in the event, but thanks to the Kusal Mendis’ 60 off 37 and Dasun’s 45 off 33 helped them to send Bangladesh home. The funky celebrations noted on camera were enough to represent their joy since it will be a night of fun in Sri Lanka’s dressing room.

Bangladesh’s bowlers tried their best to stop the flowing boundaries but could not stop the two terrific batters, smoking runs everywhere. Ebadot Hossain is on the top of Bangladesh’s list with a three-wicket haul, conceding 51 runs. Taskin Ahmed was the next best with 24 runs and two scalps.

Super 4 now has only one empty spot, which will be occupied either by Pakistan or Hong Kong. The men in green lost their opening encounter versus arch-rivals India and will try everything in power to manage things against Nizakat Khan’s side.
