Steve Smith, who is one of the top-notch cricketers named in the Australia squad for Pakistan tour 2022, says he is feeling incredibly safest in Pakistan despite the death threats received to Ashton Agar’s wife for her husband on her social media. According to reports, the threats arrived from a source operating in India, warning the player’s wife to kill Agar if he visits Pakistan.
Notably, Australia is on a tour of Pakistan for the first time in 24 years. Despite the threats, Agar is mentally in peace and finds no concern in regard. His wife, without wasting a minute, reported the incident to the related authorities. Upon investigation, it has been found that the threats are non-credible. Surprisingly, Cricket Australia (CA) is assured of the security arrangements provided by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Not only the CA, but the players are extremely satisfied with the intense security provided to them which is crystal clear from their social media posts. Smith, while talking to Perth Now, termed the incident as ‘unfortunate events. He stated,
“We’re aware of social media and the unfortunate events that can occur on platforms. We’ve got a lot of people here working with us; we trust our security and everyone involved; we are feeling incredibly safe here in Pakistan, and we’ll be guided by our security and people we trust around us.”
This is not the first time any such incident has happened upon the revival of international cricket in Pakistan. Back in 2021, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) opted out of their full-fledged tour moments before the first match began. It was a heavy blow the PCB and the nation suffered, however, cricket once again is fully back in Pakistan with immense success as a result of hard work put into it. But, it seems indigestible to some. Check here who sent the death threats to Ashton’s wife and who was behind the cancellation of New Zealand and England tours.
