After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian Men’s T20 tournament, Global T20 Canada, is making a comeback. The Brampton Sports Park will host the event from July 20 to August 6, marking a new beginning for the world of cricket.
Cricket Canada and Global T20 Canada management have demonstrated the sport’s ability to thrive in challenging times and showcase its resilience and determination.
The tournament will feature six franchises, each consisting of 16 players from various nations. This includes two marquee players, three Canadian National team players, and three emerging Canadian cricketers. Over 18 days, a total of 25 matches will be played.
The previous editions of the Global T20 witnessed the participation of renowned players such as Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, David Warner, Steve Smith, Brendon McCullum, and Thisara Perera. Mentors like Wasim Akram, Brian Lara, and Mahela Jayawardene also contributed to the success of the tournament.
Rashpal Bajwa, the President of Cricket Canada, expressed his excitement about the return of the Global T20, stating that it will play a crucial role in Canada’s efforts to regain ODI status and propel the nation to be among the top Associate Nations.
The aim of the upcoming season is to enhance the playing experience for the cricketers, deliver a world-class event for thousands of fans, and inspire a new generation of cricket enthusiasts to engage with the sport. The organizers firmly believe that this is an opportune moment for cricket’s growth in North America, and Season 3 of the Global T20 will be instrumental in contributing to this expansion.
