This Australian player is soul of the team - Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer, says that Australia’s David Warner has been the soul of the team adding that Aaron Finch and men lose half of their strength when Warner is not around there.

In the second semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Australia declared the snatching victory versus Pakistan. After being induced to bat first, Babar Azam and men put up a decent total of 176 on the board. It might have been tricky to chase but Warner’s efforts are frenzied all over.

He added a 30-ball 49 alongside his mates, Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade, adding unbeaten 40 and 41 taking the team to the pulsating finish.

Reflecting on Australia’s chase, Aakash put Warner on a high pedestal and says he helped Kangaroos to book their berth in the final of the T20 World Cup against New Zealand.

“If the Australian T20 team is a body, David Warner is its soul. If he doesn’t play, the team becomes half. But when he plays, we say form is temporary, David Warner is permanent and he is class when we talk about this format.”

Despite lauding him with praises, the former cricketer somehow criticized him for hitting the six on Mohammad Hafeez’s dead ball.

“He has been very very good. He played an amazing counter-attacking knock. He was just keeping Australia in the game. There was one moment though which broke my heart. The ball slipped out of Hafeez’s hands, who hits like that, I have never seen anyone do that even in Ranji Trophy but he hit a six.”

He further pointed out Hasan Ali as the reason for losing the trophy. Notably, the catch that slipped out of Hasan’s hands, is termed as the turning point of the Pak vs Aus semifinal. He said that Shadab Khan almost ended the game in Pakistan’s favor but one mistake cost them the game.

Notably, on the third ball of the 19th over by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan, on the deep mid-wicket dropped Matthew Wade who was in form of hitting for the boundaries. The wicketkeeping batter then hit the bowler for three consecutive sixes to finish the game kicking the green shirts out of the contest.
