This English cricketer is likely to miss Pak vs Eng 1st Test

The circulating reports regarding Pakistan vs England 1st Test say that pacer Mark Wood might miss the match due to a hip injury. As reported by The Telegraph, the bowler might only be expelled from the opening test of the historical tour and will be seen in action from the second Test. However, it is not yet officially declared if he will miss the entire three-match Test series in case of severe injury.

As per the details, Wood suffered a hip injury during England’s stint in the T20 World Cup 2022, which excluded him from the all-important semifinal clash against India at Adelaide Oval. Consequently, the player missed the final against Pakistan, despite being willing to be one of the top performers, assisting England to lift the trophy.

Although Wood’s rehabilitation is going pretty well, it is unlikely that he will make it to the first test, with only three training days left until the match starts. Notably, the series opener is scheduled to take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Ground between December 1st, and 5th. However, he would accompany the squad, visiting Pakistan for the first time in 17 years for the Test tour.

English skipper Ben Stokes, while confirming about Wood’s unavailability said that,

“No, we’re sticking with it,” said Stokes. “We’re not going to call up another seamer to this group.

“We took the decision to let Brooky and Woody spend that time at home, obviously being at Pakistan and the World Cup. We felt a week at home for them would be more beneficial, just to get their batteries recharged, and obviously with Woody’s injury, getting home and being around his wife and child would be better than being out here and getting all his rehab, which he could do at home.

“We’ve let them go home. I haven’t had much contact with them, just to let them chill out and relax. From all reports, Woody’s coming on nicely and we’ll see how he is when he gets out here.”

Notably, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a new addition to their Test squad to encounter Pakistan as Rehan Ahmed is all set to make the debut in his birth land. Below is the complete squad.
