Umar Gul, Pakistan’s temporary bowling coach, has emphasized the importance of adopting a ‘rotation policy’ for fast bowlers to keep them fresh and fit for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, scheduled to take place in India in October and November. With an impressive record of 130 ODIs for Pakistan, Gul believes that the team is lucky to have good fast bowlers who can bowl at 140+. However, he believes that it is crucial to take care of them and implement a rotation policy to avoid injuries and ensure their availability for the World Cup.

Pakistan’s Temporary Bowling Coach Umar Gul Advocates for Rotation Policy for Fast Bowlers Ahead of ICC World Cup 2023

Gul stated in an interview with Geo News that he is confident that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the selection committee are considering this policy as it is vital for the team’s success. He cited the example of Shaheen Shah Afridi, who suffered a knee injury last year and had to miss several crucial matches, including the Asia Cup and home T20I series against England. Afridi played in the T20 World Cup 2022 but injured himself again in the final, leading to a three-month break from cricket.

As the interim bowling coach for the Afghanistan T20I series, which Pakistan’s inexperienced squad lost 2-1, Gul is delighted to have been given the opportunity to work with the national team again. He expressed his gratitude to the PCB for trusting him with this responsibility and stated that he is looking forward to grooming the young and exciting fast bowlers in the team.

Gul’s role as interim bowling coach has been extended for the home New Zealand tour. When asked about his coaching approach, he said that he focuses on spending time with the fast bowlers and advising them on how to tackle a new batter at the crease. He also emphasizes the importance of bowling according to the field and suggests that this strategy can help the bowlers to be more effective.

Gul’s emphasis on a rotation policy for fast bowlers is crucial for Pakistan’s success in the ICC World Cup 2023. With the team’s potential and skill, this policy can help them avoid injuries and ensure that they are in top form for the mega event. His role as interim bowling coach is instrumental in grooming the young and exciting fast bowlers in the team, and his coaching approach can help the bowlers to be more effective.
