Viv Richards joins PJL as mentor

The former West Indies cricket great, Sir Viv Richards, is added to the mentor panel of the newly-launched Pakistan Junior League (PJL 1). He will carry on the duties alongside ex-Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad, who is the overall league mentor of the panel.

Earlier, New Zealand’s Colin Munro and South Africa’s Imran Tahir were added to PJL’s six-member mentor panel, including Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, and Darren Sammy. All the mentioned members, following the latest inclusion of Richards, will be the team mentors, carrying on their duties under Miandad’s assistance.

Richards will see Javed, his old counterpart, in October since the PJL 1 will be played between the 6th and 12th of the month. He has been Quetta Gladiators’ vital cog in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in six of the seven seasons.

While expressing his joy on another opportunity to flourish young talent of Pakistan, he narrated,

“I think the Pakistan Junior League is a tremendous tool for further consolidating Pakistan cricket’s foundations by unearthing and developing quality talent.”

The former West Indies cricketer further expressed his excitement about reuniting with his old friend, Miandad.

“I am absolutely thrilled at reuniting with my mate Javed Miandad at the Pakistan Junior League, with whom I cherish some great memories from our playing days. Miandad was a fighter and a tough competitor, and it will be lovely to be working alongside him at the Pakistan Junior League, which is an exciting and innovative concept.

Viv Richards says he has always been an admirer of Pakistan Cricket’s young talent grooming with the courtesy of opportunities provided them like PSL and junior level competitions.

“During my playing days, I always admired the talent Pakistan produced and this belief strengthened during my time with Quetta Gladiators at the HBL Pakistan Super League. The PCB have gone one step further by introducing age-group franchise cricket, which will help in further nurturing and developing outstanding talent.
