  • Wahab Riaz, the Provincial Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting all athletes and announced the upcoming Punjab Endowment Fund to boost the sports sector.

In a heartwarming gesture of appreciation for Arshad Nadeem’s remarkable achievement, the caretaker Provincial Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs in Punjab, Wahab Riaz, recently announced a substantial cash prize of Rs. 3 million.

This announcement comes in the wake of Arshad Nadeem’s outstanding performance and silver medal victory in javelin throwing at the World Athletics Championship 2023 held in Budapest. The decision to bestow this honor upon the talented athlete was made under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi.

Wahab Riaz, who himself is a former cricketer, expressed the significance of this recognition, emphasizing that it extends beyond Arshad Nadeem alone. He stated,

“It is not just about Arshad; we are dedicated to acknowledging the tireless efforts and passion of all our athletes.

Their unwavering commitment to their sport will not go unnoticed.

“This move underscores the Punjab provincial government’s commitment to nurturing and supporting athletes who wholeheartedly represent their country on the global stage.

Moreover, Wahab Riaz unveiled an exciting development for the sports sector in Punjab—the imminent launch of the Punjab Endowment Fund. This initiative is poised to play a pivotal role in further strengthening the province’s sports infrastructure and nurturing budding talents.

“The future of sports and athletes in Punjab is indeed bright, and under the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister, we are actively fortifying our sports sector,” Wahab Riaz affirmed.

Arshad Nadeem, a 25-year-old athlete hailing from Mian Channu, recently made headlines with his exceptional performance at the World Athletics Championship 2023 in Hungary. During the competition, he clinched the silver medal with a remarkable throw that covered an impressive distance of 87.82 meters on his third attempt.

This remarkable achievement placed him just behind Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the world of athletics.
