The ICC ODI Men’s World Cup 2023 is all set to take place in India later this year and former Pakistani cricketer, Mohammad Yusuf has talked about Pakistan’s chances in the extravaganza. Making a bold claim about Pakistan’s chances in the World Cup 2023, Yusuf believes that the men in green will strive hard to lift the trophy at the arch-rivals’ realm.
Yusuf has put his belief in Pakistan’s team combination and finds it worthy enough of tackling all the obstacles, leaving behind the rest of the participants. While talking to media in Lahore, the former cricketer said that Pakistan have top-notched batters occurring in the top ICC rankings alongside top-rated bowlers and all-rounders.
Mohammad Yusuf finds Pakistan’s chances worthy to win World Cup 2023
“Our combination in white-ball cricket is really good. Our three batters are among the top-ten ranked ICC ODI batters. Imad Wasim has made a comeback. Then, Shadab [Khan] and Mohammad Nawaz are really good. We have three top-class all-rounders, who are also good fielders,”
He further added,
“I think we have a very good chance of winning the World Cup,”
Yusuf further identified six key pacers who are likely to play a massive role in Pakistan’s success in the mega event. He named experienced Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Wasim Jnr and two new faces, Ihsanullah and Zaman Khan.
“In fast-bowling, we have Shaheen Shah [Afridi], Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Wasim [Jnr]. Then we have new pacers like Ihsanullah and Zaman Khan, so Pakistan has a lot of options in white-ball cricket,”
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup 2023 hangs by a rope due to travel issues to India. It is because the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has denied visiting Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023. The ice between the two nations does not seem to be melting.
