What did Dean Jones said about Arshad Iqbal?

Dean Jones was a former Australian top-order batsman who represented his side in 52 Test matches and 164 One Day International matches.

He scored 3,631 Test runs at an average of 46 with 11 centuries and 14 fifties. In ODIs, he scored 6,068 runs at an average of 44 with seven centuries and 46 fifties.

Dean Jones was part of the successful Australian team that won the 1987 Cricket World Cup. It was the first time that Australia won the major 50-over tournament.

After his retirement in 1994, he took various coaching roles, including in T20 leagues around the world. In Pakistan Super League, he coached Islamabad United and won the titles in 2016, the inaugural edition, and 2018. After that, he took the coaching role in 2020 for Karachi Kings.

However, Jones died on September 24, 2020, due to a heart attack and he could not see his team winning their maiden PSL title, which Karachi Kings won by five wickets, defeating arch-rivals Lahore Qalandars.

Dean Jones took over the coaching role of Karachi Kings in 2020 and he was impressed with some of the locals of the team. There were four of the players whom he was so impressed with. Those four players were opening batsman Awais Zia, seam bowler Arshad Iqbal and spinners in Usama Mir and Umer Khan.

Jones quoted on the players, expressing his trust in four local players. On Arshad Iqbal, he said that “this boy is exactly what we want” and was very impressed by him.

“I am very impressed by Arshad Iqbal. He is a very talented and capable bowler. I feel he should be regularly playing first-class cricket too, he is one bowler who has a lot of potential.”

The bowler took 3-16 in his four-over spell as Karachi Kings bowled out Quetta Gladiators for 121 in the 2021 PSL opener. Many people remembered the words of Dean Jones on Arshad Iqbal.
