When will IPL Women's first edition take place?

The inaugural version of the Indian Premier League’s women’s edition is likely to begin either in March 2023 or September 2023. The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently looking for two possible windows to make IPL Women happen in 2023.

The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah earlier announced the competitive women’s T20 tournament to kick-start next year. However, the fans awaited the window. It has been learnt that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA) will join hands with the Indian board to urge the International Cricket Council to create a window in March for IPL Women, and if not, in September 2023.

Women’s cricketers from all across the world have shown their interest in participating in the event. BCCI’s decision to launch the tournament came after the Women’s Big Bash League of CA, and the Women’s Hundred of the ECB got immense success and attention.

It must be noted the BCCI recently held the Women’s T20 challenge after a gap of a year and a half. The viewership broke the former records showing the dedication of people to follow Women’s Cricket in India. Also, the crowd in stadiums showed great support for the female cricketers. The player themselves were dedicated to their game. On analysis, the BCCI has announced a forum for the young girls, and all those interested to showcase their cricket skills and learn from it.

Notably, during the men’s IPL 2022 playoff, the stakeholders held a meeting with the BCCI. Reportedly, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders have announce buying franchises. Also, the Chennai Super Kings are interested to buy one. On the big appeal of the former cricketers and the experts, the BCCI has an eye of March or September 2023 to inaugurate the IPL Women.
