Who will be the new ODI captain of Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is looking ahead giving more opportunities to the youngsters sliding the seniors down. Reportedly, Kusal Perera would be the new ODI captain of the Islanders replacing out-of-form Dimuth Karunaratne.
Dimuth is yet to slam a hundred in the 50-over format and commences as the skipper with an average of 27.4 and an SR of 74.5. The Island country has recently lost by 0-3 versus West Indies under Karunaratne in the ICC World Cup Super League.
Perera’s duty might begin in the Bangladesh ODI tour. He has five tons and nine half-tons in the ODI format and has gained experience of captaincy while leading Kandy Tuskers in the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
Being one of the top performers, he has gathered 2825 ODI runs featuring in 101 games at an SR of 92.59. It is pertinent to mention here that the SLC might load Kusal Mendis as the vice-captain of the team under Kusal Perera’s leadership.
Reportedly, a few senior players would be sacked to enhance the experience and confidence of the youngsters ahead of the World Cup.

“We are focusing on the 2023 World Cup and this is a good learning experience for the players. We want to groom a new captain and most probably Kusal Mendis is tipped to be the new Vice-Captain. We want to give him that confidence by naming him as the vice-captain,” the source was quoted as saying by Daily News Sri Lanka.
