Pakistan fast-bowler Hasan Ali remains uncertain about his inclusion in the national squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India. Hasan Ali hopeful to play World Cup 2023
Speaking exclusively to Geo News at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, where he is currently playing for Warwickshire CCC in the English county season, Hasan emphasized the need to showcase exceptional performances to make a comeback into the white-ball squad. He is determined to excel for Birmingham Bears in the T20 Blast tournament, aiming to become their best bowler and contribute to the team’s victories. Hasan believes that if the national selectors and Pakistan’s team management are pleased with his performance, he may be considered for the World Cup.
Representing his country in the World Cup and winning trophies for Pakistan is a dream for Hasan, who draws confidence from his past experiences in ICC tournaments. Having played five county championship matches for Warwickshire CCC so far, he has already taken 22 wickets and scored two fifties with the bat. His impressive performances in the longer format have earned him a spot in the Pakistan red-ball squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka in July.
Hasan eagerly looks forward to playing for Pakistan and expresses satisfaction with his performance in the county championship. He appreciates the professionalism of the setup at Warwickshire CCC, including the coaches and management. Before joining the team, he had detailed discussions with the management about managing his workload, and he commends their exceptional handling of the situation.
Commenting on the appointment of Mickey Arthur as Director of the Pakistan team, Hasan believes Arthur should have been reappointed as the head coach. Recognizing Arthur’s extensive knowledge of the players, especially those who made their international debuts under him, Hasan acknowledges the positive impact of Arthur’s coaching during his tenure, including winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. Hasan cherishes the memories of their time together and emphasizes the importance of performing well to secure a spot in the team.
While Hasan acknowledges that criticism is part of the game, he believes it should be based solely on performance rather than becoming personal or involving family members. Although he doesn’t mind constructive criticism, personal attacks, especially when directed at family members, can be hurtful and unnecessary.
In the first week of July, Hasan will conclude his stint with Warwickshire CCC and return to Pakistan to join the national squad for the Test tour of Sri Lanka.
