Will MS Dhoni play IPL 2023?

MS Dhoni has confirmed his participation in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League saying he will not disappoint his fans without playing a farewell season for the Chennai Super Kings. CSK did not have a great start to IPL 2022, and the later campaign was not fruitful either.

Ahead of the season, Ravindra Jadeja was appointed captain of the team in a shocking development and the decision does not turn out to be productive for them. After back-to-back defeats, the leadership has once again been handed over to Dhoni.

After a poor IPL 2022 campaign, Dhoni and co are looking to have a prolific IPL 2023 next year, leading from scratch and finally the adieu. During the toss of the 68th match of the current season, the former Indian cricketer confirmed his availability for the next season saying ‘definitely’ for the role.

“Definitely, it’s a simple reason because it will be unfair not to say thank you to Chennai. Mumbai is one place where as a team and as an individual I’ve got a lot of love and affection. And it won’t be nice to do that to CSK fans.”

He commented whether or not IPL 2023 will be his last year in IPL is a tough question that can be answered with time. After CSK have fallen apart this year, Dhoni is looking for a strong comeback in Yellow Colours next year. He feels playing at different venues might change the team’s momentum.

“Hopefully next year it’ll be an opportunity where the teams will be traveling so it’ll be like a thank you to different places and you’ll be playing games at different venues. Whether it’ll be my last year or not is a big question because you can’t really predict something that is two years down the line but definitely, I’ll be working hard to come back strong next year,”

It must be noted Dhoni has been leading and serving the Chennai-based franchise since IPL’s inauguration in 2008. His team is the second most successful IPL franchise, with four trophies.
