India's women cricket captain talks about Pak vs Ind clash

The biggest clash of all time, Pakistan vs India of the ICC ODI Women’s World Cup 2022 is set to take place on 6th March at New Zealand’s Bay Oval. All are eying on Pak vs Ind to see if the girls in blue will maintain their winning streak versus the arch-rivals in the World Cup, or just like men in green in the T20 World Cup 2021, Bismah Maroof and co too will hand over massive blows to Mithali Raj’s side.

India and Pakistan both will kick-start their WWC22 journey against each other. It must be noted the women in green are yet to win an ODI match versus the Indian women’s cricket team. The streak will either be broken or Mithali, under her leadership, will keep the years-old legacy alive. However, she believes Pakistan should not be taken lightly. Her opinion might have changed after seeing the men’s cricket team thrashing away India entirely in WC21.

Women’s World Cup 2022: Mithali Raj and team preparing for Pak vs Ind clash

Both the teams have dominated their opponents in the warm-up matches of the marquee event. Pakistan, on the one hand, defeated New Zealand and Bangladesh, on the other hand, India overpowered South Africa and West Indies. The arch-rivals will be looking to maintain the momentum in the tournament stage to reach the semifinal, and finally clutch the trophy.

As far as the history of women’s ODI world cup is considered, Pakistan have neither won nor reached the semifinal, however, India ended their 2017 and 2005 journeys as the runner-ups versus England and Australia respectively.

Mithali, one of the probable contestants to lift up this season’s trophy, says Pakistan should not be taken for granted. She stated while facing the rivals on the ground, it will be like other teams who have prepared to win the tournament rather than the hype created for Pak vs Ind to pressurize. As quoted by India today, she narrated,

“I think Pakistan is also a good side and I am sure they have prepared very hard for the tournament and so have we. Every team here, we can’t take any team lightly. So we will get into playing every game with a lot of intensity and with a lot of confidence,”.

“As a team, we are excited to get into the World Cup and start our campaign tomorrow. We are not looking at it as Pakistan we are playing against, we are looking at a team, which has come prepared and we are equally prepared to put our best foot forward, ”
