Women's Asia Cup 2022: First upset for Pakistan

Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team has started its Women’s Asia Cup 2022 campaign on a good note, winning the first two consecutive matches against Malaysia and Bangladesh, respectively. However, their winning streak came to an end as Thailand Women made sure to shake their position on the points table.

Despite the women in green ending on the losing cause, it was a close game for them since they battled till the end. On winning the toss, Bismah Maroof and co opted to bat and compiled 116 runs on the loss of five wickets. Sidra Ameen’s 56 from 64 balls was the only notable score since the rest, including Muneeba Ali’s 15 and Nida Dar’s 12, helped Pakistan surpass a mediocre score.

In reply, Thailand women’s Natthakan Chantam’s splendid 61 from 51 gave them a way to go since they chased the feat, sparing one ball. Nattaya Boochatham’s single run played towards mid-wicket on Diana Baig’s delivery terminated the show with Thailand’s girls cheering for their success.

As far as the top bowlers are concerned, Tuba Hasan has proved herself a gem dug by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Apart from inspiring in the event’s first two games, she once again became today’s star with two scalps, on conceding 18 runs from all four overs. Nida also gathered two wickets but yielded 26 runs from all her overs.

From Thailand, Sornnarin Tippoch was their best, giving away 20 runs for four overs and collecting two crucial wickets too. Tipatcha Putthawong was the next best with one wicket, yielding 21 runs and delivering all four overs.

As a result of this match, Pakistan Women have slid down to the second spot on the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 rankings, whereas India Women have reached the topmost with three out of three wins. Since it was Thailand’s first win out of three played, they have been put in the fifth slot with two points.
