World Cup 2022: Qualification scenario for Pakistan

Pakistan’s humiliating defeat versus Zimbabwe has almost killed their chances to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, but yet, it is possible with some ifs and buts.

Discussing the men in green’s Super 12 journey so far, they have failed to manage in two out of two matches. Despite coming closer to victory both times, they have been thrashed by India and Zimbabwe, respectively.

In the first match, the men in blue overpowered Babar Azam and co by four wickets with no ball to spare. Whereas, in Thursday’s encounter, while chasing this time, they mismanaged with the bat.

The run-out to Shaheen Shah Afridi with three required from one gave some thrills to enjoy the fans. However, Sikandar Raza won the hearts.

Earlier in the day, they were propelled to bowl first and did wonders as Wasim Jnr picked a four-wicket haul, including a three-wicket haul from Shadab Khan, an economical spell from Haris Rauf, including 12 for one.

The bowling unit conceded 130 runs. However, the batting line-up failed to chase, with all the nailbiting drama in the last over of Brad Ervans.

Despite losing the match, the men in green are yet into the tournament with some chances to qualify for the semi-final. They will want India to win all the remaining three matches, whereas they will have to win all of their remaining games too.

First scenario:

In one scenario, they will have to maintain a good Net Run Rate, winning all games and will also want either India or the Netherlands to defeat South Africa. Moreover, if either India or Bangladesh overcomes Zimbabwe, their chances can be further polished to qualify for the semi-final.

Second scenario:

In other case, they will have to win all games or pray for India to lose two out of their three leftover matches.
