The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has made a suspenseful request for a change in the date of the Pakistan vs England match scheduled for November 12 in Kolkata during the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.
The request comes in light of Kali Puja, a significant Hindu festival celebrated in India. As the entire police department will be occupied with the festival’s arrangements, providing security for Pakistan’s match will pose challenges and may be next to impossible.
Kolkata Police won’t provide security to Pakistan during Pak vs Eng in World Cup 2023
The CAB has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) team and the Board of Control for Cricket’s (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, about Kolkata Police’s inability to ensure security for Pakistan during Kali Puja.
Pakistan’s match against England will mark the culmination of their group-stage journey in the mega event, adding to the intrigue and excitement of the tournament.
On a separate note, Pakistan’s World Cup squad is taking shape after initial discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Think Tank. While Head Coach Grant Bradburn, Director Mickey Arthur, Captain Babar Azam, and Manager Analytics Hassan Cheema have agreed on 12 to 13 players to be included in the squad, the final decision will await the appointment of the new chief selector.
Players like Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Usama Mir, Mohammad Nawaz, and Agha Salman are likely to secure their places in the squad. Additionally, Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Wasim Jnr are also being considered.
However, suspense lingers for the final two to three names, which will be revealed in the coming days once the think tank shares its input with the newly appointed chief selector.
