World number 1 T20I batsman spot stays in Pakistan

Pakistan’s wicketkeeping batter Mohammad Rizwan has dethroned his opening partner and the skipper of the team, Babar Azam, to become the World number 1 T20I batsman as the International Cricket Council (ICC) updated rankings earlier today. Azam has portrayed flop batting throughout the Asia Cup 2022 stint. Whereas Rizwan has astonished the watchers with his worth-watching batting.

Although Rizwan has been bashed for failing to rotate the strike in the powerplay but has proved his worth afterwards on multiple occasions, settling with the bat tremendously, proving his critics wrong, the wicketkeeping batter who started his T20I career in 2015 has played 59 so far, amassing 1854 runs at an average of 53.0.

Rizwan now has 815 ratings, whereas Babar has slipped to the second spot, securing 794 rating after a poor Asia Cup stint. The top two spots remain between two Pakistanis, who share a good bond with each other on and off the field. They are considered the backbone of Pakistan’s batting line-up.

The batter, who has scored 192 runs in three Asia Cup 2022 matches, is leading the run chart. On getting the World number 1 T20I batsman spot, Rizwan says Azam is yet the king. He took it to Twitter on achieving the remark and narrated,

Notably, Azam has remained World’s number 1 T20 batter for the most number of days, 1156, than any batsmen across the world. A few months back, he surpassed Virat Kohli’s record to stay in the slot for the most number of days.
