Yasir Arafat gets a big role in PCB

Yasir Arafat

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the appointment of former cricketer Yasir Arafat as the assistant and bowling coach of the national men’s cricket team. This move comes as Mickey Arthur, who previously served as the head coach of the team for three years, is expected to become the team’s director. Arthur will continue to work full-time with English county side Derbyshire, but will still be involved with the team as he will have a say in selecting his coaching staff.

Najam Sethi, the chairman of the PCB Management Committee, expressed confidence in Arthur’s ability to manage the team even with his absence on some tours. After getting the approval to choose his coaching staff, Arthur recommended Yasir Arafat as his assistant. The 40-year-old recently earned a level four specialist coach degree from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Arafat had a brief but impressive international cricket career, playing three Tests, 11 ODIs, and 13 T20Is for Pakistan. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Karachi in 2000. As a player, he has over 1,400 wickets and more than 11,000 runs in all forms of cricket. In addition to his impressive playing record, Arafat also has extensive coaching experience, having worked for teams such as the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League and Surrey in County Cricket.

The PCB is hoping that with this appointment, the national men’s cricket team will reach new heights. The board recognizes the wealth of experience and knowledge that Arafat brings to the table, both as a player and coach, and is confident that he will be able to make a significant impact on the team’s performance.

In conclusion, the appointment of Yasir Arafat as the assistant and bowling coach of the national men’s cricket team is a positive step forward for the PCB. With Mickey Arthur’s involvement in the selection process and the wealth of experience that Arafat brings, the board is optimistic about the future of the team. The PCB is dedicated to ensuring that the team is well-equipped to compete at the highest level, and this appointment is a testament to their commitment to excellence.
