Yasir Arafat Reveals Possibility of Joining Mickey Arthur's Coaching Panel

Former Pakistan all-rounder, Yasir Arafat, has revealed that he has been approached by Mickey Arthur to serve as a bowling coach in his team’s coaching panel. Arthur is set to become the director of the Pakistan cricket team, and Arafat would also serve as head coach in Arthur’s absence. However, Arafat has said that he is not aware of being considered for the head coach role, and he does not believe he is experienced enough for that position.

There were some reports that Arthur would be involved in online coaching, but Arafat has dispelled that notion. He said that Arthur will work primarily as a director and oversee coaching matters along with his team that will work pre and post-match on grounds. Arthur will curate strategies that will have to be implemented, and he will miss two series – one against New Zealand and the other one against Sri Lanka happening in July. After that, he will join the team for the World Cup preparations.

Arafat talked about his first meeting with Arthur, saying that they met briefly when he was playing in the Big Bash in Australia, and Arthur was there for commentary purposes. He believes that Arthur reached out to him via a tweet that he posted about his level 4 coaching. Arafat is excited to be part of Arthur’s coaching team and believes that his Pakistani background makes him a good pick for the role.

The former all-rounder also emphasized the importance of workload management, particularly when it comes to young pacers like Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf. He believes that it is the duty of regulating authorities to manage the workload of players, but players also need to be responsible, especially when they are counted as the premium fast bowlers of Pakistan. He suggested that players should take a break and develop new skills during the off-season, and the PCB and players both need to step in and concentrate on workload management.
