Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is set to introduce Lanka T10, their inaugural ten-over cricket competition scheduled to take place from December 12-23. The tournament will unfold in the bustling city of Colombo, and the eagerly anticipated player auction will occur on November 10.

Lanka T10 tends to be for both; men’s and women’s

Alongside this exciting development, there are also plans to conduct a women’s T10 league concurrently with the men’s event, although specific details regarding the women’s league remain somewhat limited.

In the men’s category, the Lanka T10 competition will consist of six franchises, each representing iconic Sri Lankan cities, as confirmed by an official statement from SLC. All the matches are slated to be held within the vibrant confines of Colombo, and player registrations are actively underway until November 5.

The advent of T10 cricket represents an evolution in the sport, and SLC President Shammi Silva expressed the organization’s enthusiasm for being part of this innovative venture. He noted,

“Cricket has been continuing to evolve and T10 is the latest form to enter the fray, and is becoming a popular format in the game. We are delighted to be a part of this newer venture, and are confident that the initial version of Lanka T10 will be a success story.”

Notably, Lanka T10 is a collaborative effort between SLC and T Ten Sports Management group, renowned organizers responsible for events such as the Abu Dhabi T10 and the Zim-Afro T10. They have also introduced the US Master T10 event into the cricketing world. Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman of T Ten Sports, commented on their success, saying,

“We have not only established T10 as a legitimate format of the game over the years, but also the most entertaining one.”

Sri Lanka’s embrace of T10 cricket makes it the second ICC Full Member country to adopt this exciting format, following in the footsteps of the Zimbabwe Cricket-backed Zim-Afro competition, which took place in July. Notably, the island country also hosts the Lanka Premier League, a six-team T20 competition that last graced the cricketing world in August 2023.
