David Warner Reflects on "Bizarre" SRH Exit: "It Did Hurt"

David Warner has opened up about his unexpected departure from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a recent conversation on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel, labeling the experience as “bizarre.”

Warner’s IPL journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions. After a successful stint with Delhi Capitals, he found a new home at SRH from 2014 to 2021, even leading them to victory in the 2016 season. However, a downturn in form during the 2021 season, culminating in his removal as captain, led to a sudden and puzzling exit from the franchise.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Warner expressed his bewilderment at the treatment he received, particularly being blocked by SRH on social media platforms despite his dedication to fan engagement.

“It did hurt because it was a sense of like hurt for fans,” Warner stated. “The fans are the most important relationship you could have. The engagement with the fans that I had, with the team had was very good.”

He further emphasized the importance of fan connection, adding, “I am not sure why I was blocked. But I did engage with a lot of fans on the social media side for SRH. I did feel it was my duty to engage with the fans, making sure they kept coming back. That is what is most important. But from the blocking point of view, I do not know. I have been sitting on it for about 5 years. It was bizarre.”

Despite the SRH management’s baffling decision, Warner continues to actively connect with fans on his own platforms. His contributions to SRH remain undeniable, with 4,014 runs scored in 95 matches, solidifying his position as an IPL legend.

In 2022, Warner returned to Delhi Capitals, where he continues to showcase his explosive batting talent with two centuries and 22 fifties under his belt. While he has yet to secure another IPL title with his current team, his dedication to the sport and his fans remains unwavering.
