Fastest Indian Bowler: Umran Malik breaks own record in ODI against Sri Lanka

Indian fast bowler Umran Malik shattered his own record by clocking in the fastest delivery ever recorded by an Indian bowler. During the first One Day International (ODI) match against Sri Lanka on January 10, Malik bowled at a scorching 156 kph, surpassing his previous record of 155 kph set during the first T20 International match against Sri Lanka on January 4.

Not only did Malik break his own record, but he also overtook Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s record of 153.36 kph. The 23-year-old from Srinagar troubled the Sri Lankan batsmen with his speed as they struggled to score off his deliveries in the first ODI. Malik is now considered India’s fastest bowler, surpassing well-known names such as Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

In the game, Malik registered career-best ODI figures of 3/57 by picking up three crucial wickets in the eight overs he bowled. In six ODI matches, he has taken ten wickets and maintained an economy rate of 6.21. He played a pivotal role in India’s victory as they took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

India also had a strong performance in batting. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill shared a 143-run partnership, providing a solid start for the team. The real star of the match was Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain, who scored his second consecutive century and led India to a massive score of 373/7.

Sri Lanka attempted to chase the target but were reduced to 206/8 after 38 overs; despite a valiant effort from their captain Dasun Shanaka, who hit an impressive century, their team lost the game by 67 runs.
