Pak vs Aus: Shadab Khan's availability in doubt

Pak vs Aus: Shadab Khan’s injury has put his availability in doubt ahead of the Pakistan vs Australia ODI series. The all-rounder is most likely to miss the first two games, however, if he clears his fitness test, he might feature in the concluding ODI.

During the historic Australia tour of Pakistan, the two teams have winded up a three-match red-ball series with the hosts winning 1-0 and the first two games being drawn. The 50-over series will begin on Tuesday, with the encounters scheduled for 29th March, 31st March, and 2nd April. It will be followed by the one-off T20I on 5th March.

As per sources, Shadab, despite recovering from groin injury to some extent, has not yet played a game. Hence, the team management is not in favour of including him in the squad so the injury does not get worsened. According to Cricket Pakistan, he can be added to the third ODI playing XI if he clears the fitness test.

Things changed for Shadab after Asia Cup 2018 as he suffered a groin injury. Although the bowling all-rounder played the tournament, but his figures were compromised. It was the beginning of consecutive injuries including the recent one in PSL 2022 was ruled out of the game against Lahore Qalandars and some following matches due to persistent injuries.

His elimination is a big blow to team Pakistan since Shadab has proved himself as a useful batter in the middle-order and active in the field. His economic overs can turn the game, especially on the spin favouring wickets in Pakistan.
