The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mr Ramiz Raja, lately has announced the Pakistan Junior League, which is scheduled to take place during this year’s October in Lahore. The PCB is looking for people interested in buying the tournament’s franchises and the ex-star cricketer Shahid Afridi has shown great interest in buying one of the franchises.
The purpose of the U-19 player-based tournament is to provide youngsters with an opportunity to polish their talent and gain the limelight through it. Meanwhile, PCB looks for other contestants to invest in the franchises, and Afridi is already collecting the details. While talking to one of the local channels, he revealed,
“I have a plan to buy a franchise in the junior league. In fact, I have talked about this with a couple of my friends because I don’t know the financial aspects of buying a team. So, let’s see how it goes,”
Recently, Pakistan Junior League (PJL) has been getting criticism since experts believe existing cricket already is not much flowering in the country. People believe PCB’s main concern should be settling existing cricket at first before moving on to other plans.

However, the former cricketer has backed the idea of kick-starting the U19 tournament. For him, PJL is a great idea until four-day cricket and 50-over cricket commences. He believes it will act as a confidence booster for the youngster and domestic newcomers who fail to get highlighted despite their performances.
“For me, this is a good idea until and unless 50-overs and four-day cricket continues. I have always been vocal about polishing cricketers at the U19 level. I think this league will provide ample opportunities to our budding cricketers in terms of environment, camera facing and crowd. Usually, our domestic cricket doesn’t have big crowds and live telecast, so this league will be a confidence booster in that sense,”
