BBL and Ashes players can be banned, here is why

To keep the COVID-19 away from entering the teams’ camps, the players of the ongoing Ashes and the Big Bash League (BBL) will have to serve a ban in case of signing autographs in New South Wales and Victoria with 2482 and 1504 cases reported in the realms respectively on Saturday.

The chief executive of Cricket Australia (CA), Nick Hockley added that players must maintain social distances from the fans.

Notably, Australia’s new Test captain, Pat Cummins is missing the second Ashes match as he was found in close contact with a person. After serving an isolation period for a week in Adelaide, he flew back to Sydney and was tested for COVID-19. After he resulted positive, he will be now featuring in the rest of the three Tests.

For the next two tests in Melbourne and Sydney, level-four protocols will be implicated which will prevent players from eating indoors, attending bars, and even taking haircuts. Also, if a player wants to stay home, he will have to undergo regular tests.

No autographs for fans in Ashes and BBL, says Nick Hockley:

Players were often seen signing autographs to the fans and interacting with them in the ongoing Ashes Test series and BBL. Now, the CA CEO wants the players to stay alert. He stated,

“That’s the real shame because what we have seen is players wanting to interact with fans. That’s been a feature of the Big Bash. But we’ve now got very clear protocols. As it comes to those on the field of play we need to make sure that people are operating in a really biosecure way,”
