BBL 2023-24: Adelaide Strikers eying to sign Shadab Khan

  • Adelaide Strikers eye Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan for the 2023-24 BBL season, replacing Rashid Khan.
  • Shadab Khan, recovering from concussion, contemplates offer and prioritizes domestic cricket for form.
  • Poor World Cup 2023 stats and injury become hurdle in his way

Adelaide Strikers, a prominent franchise in the Big Bash League (BBL), has reached out to the talented Pakistani all-rounder, Shadab Khan, as they gear up for the 2023-24 season. This move comes in the wake of Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan withdrawing from the team due to minor surgery on his lower back, paving the way for Pakistani all-rounder to potentially fill the void.

As the BBL enters its 13th season, commencing on December 7, the Adelaide Strikers are actively seeking a replacement for Rashid Khan, and Shadab has emerged as a prime candidate. However, the Pakistani all-rounder has not yet confirmed his acceptance of the offer, deliberating on whether to commit to the BBL franchise.

Adelaide Strikers’ choice kept out of internationals for a while

His exclusion from the Pakistan Test tour of Australia has provided him with an opportunity to focus on his recovery from a concussion. Despite not being part of the national team, Shadab is keen on maintaining his form through domestic cricket rather than participating in various leagues. His commitment to training reflects his dedication to returning to peak performance.

In the recently concluded World Cup 2023, the 25-year-old had a forgettable season. He failed to showcase his skills with both bat and ball, amassing 121 runs in six matches, with a highest score of 43. Additionally, he contributed with the ball, securing two wickets from six games.

The Adelaide Strikers’ first match in the upcoming season is scheduled against the Brisbane Heat on December 9, setting the stage for a potentially exciting debut for Shadab if he chooses to join the BBL franchise.
