T20 World Cup 2021: BCCI shortlists venues, matter to be discussed later

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has chosen the venues for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Choosing Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Mohali, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Dharamshala, BCCI hopes the venues will be hosting the World Cup matches in 2021.

Notably, a few parties are unhappy with the decision and expect that the long-listed venues will be problematic in the Annual General Meeting (ACG). The shortlisted venues are to be discussed in ACG that is all set to take place on December 24th.

“It’s a matter of pride for every center to host World Cup matches. We have high-class stadiums and top facilities and we want the BCCI to consider our case as well. We are OK with the bigger centers hosting India matches. But at least give us some games. We will raise the issue at the AGM,” President of West Zone State Association said according to Indian Express.

The World Cup 2020 was all set to be hosted by Australia but its cancelation amidst the COVID-19 pandemic shifted it to get staged in 2022. However, the 2021 edition has remained in India. It is to note that India earlier hosted the ICC T20 World Cup in 2016 where the Dhoni-led team lost at the hands of the Caribbeans in the semi-final. The West Indies ended up lifting the trophy.
